ABOUT US
The Artruism Foundation is composed of doctors and artists whose mission is to bridge the medical and artistic worlds by combining art and medicine. To achieve this, the Foundation organizes several initiatives, including:

-
Free art therapy workshops (when part of a scientific research study), consisting of 12 sessions prescribed by health professionals, for individuals experiencing mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, and isolation.
-
COMING SOON: Paid art therapy workshops (outside of research programs), also consisting of 12 sessions prescribed by health professionals, for individuals facing the same mental health challenges.

OUR MISSION
“Transforming mental health care with accessible, evidence-based art therapy.”
-
Promote the development of an art therapy prescription practice across Quebec and Canada, in collaboration with UQAT and Concordia University and Art Hives
-
Promoting medical research on art and its therapeutic effects on mental health
-
Sensitize health care personnel to the therapeutic effects of art
-
Exhibit therapeutic works «Artruism» in clinics and health facilities in Quebec
We aim to reduce anxiety and medication use in people with depression and other associated disorders. Our goal is also to reduce isolation and loneliness among those for whom our art therapy workshops can also serve as a social anchor. These workshops will allow them to create contacts and obtain references for various services.
The art-prescription workshops allow quick access to complementary mental health therapies for people who are suffering and in immediate need. Right now, many people are waiting to be seen by a doctor or to be followed by a psychologist, and the waiting lists are long. On the other hand, therapies can be expensive and not available to everyone.
Finally, art therapy can have an impact on health care and its costs and can reduce medical clinic visits.

We believe that art, through its creation and practice, or the beauty of its forms and colours, can have a positive and beneficial effect on people’s physical and mental health. This effect can be felt by seeing the beauty of works or creating art.
OUR GOALS
-
Develop an Art-Prescription network across Quebec and Canada
-
Create an increasing number of virtual and in-person art therapy workshops
-
Continue our research in collaboration with Concordia University
-
Train health professionals and medical staff on the virtues and benefits of art
-
